The Birds and the Bees

I’m always thinking of the birds and the bees, and to that end I’ve been cultivating this patch of poppies outside my house for several years. When i say cultivate, in reality i mean i just look at them and they do all the hard work growing by themselves. This year we have a super crop full of amazing vivid and vibrant colours and they are driving the local bee population crazy. I come back to shooting them every year, they are one of my favourite subjects, but i like to try and see them in new ways. So this year i came armed with the new 50mm f1.2 and had a play with different exposures, working my way up through the apertures to see if i could shoot something a little different this time round.

And i’ve got to say I’m really happy with the experiment, starting this morning at the shallow (dof) end, here’s the resuls… you try catching a bee in flight at f1.2, its the definition of tricky!
